Ballet Interviews Quickfire Questions

Quickfire Questions – Tristan Dyer

Tristan Dyer answers our quickfire questions.

What’s your dream role to dance?

Romeo.

If you were a female dancer, what role would you like to tackle, and who would be your partner?

Probably Juliet, with Federico Bonelli as Romeo. He is the best.

What’s been your most embarrassing or funny stage mishap?

When I was younger, I was performing as a rat in a show. I had to run around with a lot of dry ice; I was running around in circles and the floor was so wet from all the dry ice. And I slipped and did this complete banana peel flip in midair.

What’s a ballet exercise that you find particularly helpful?

Fondues. There’s something about them – I warm up with that before anything.

What’s your pre-show ritual?

I drink a lot of something called Vega sports drink, which gives me a natural energy boost. I’ll drink that halfway through the day, before a show to get that hydration and energy in. I always have a light meal before the show. I’ll always have the same thing – a few slices of chicken, salad and a rice pudding thing. And always a coffee! Any coffee will do.

If you could only eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Doughnuts.

My friends find it hilarious how much I love doughnuts, and during my birthday my cupboard will be stocked with boxes of Krispy Kremes they gave me.

If you could be anywhere on earth right now, where would it be?

Right here. I love where I am. I love London at this time of the year in the fall. This is my favourite time of year, it’s beautiful.

What’s on your playlist at the moment?

I actually like classical music – I always find myself going for classical music. I love the music from Balanchine’s Emeralds, that’s my favourite of all time. Also, I’m a big Vanessa Carlton fan. And on the other extreme, I like rap – I like listening to Nicki Minaj.

If you could be anyone for one day, who would you be?

Probably Karl Lagerfeld. Or this interior designer named Martin Lawrence Bullard. I love interior design. It’s one of my passions.
