Precious Adams answers our quickfire questions about pointe shoes, music, and her favourite dancers.
Quickfire Questions Team Black Swan, Team White Swan, Team Swanilda or Team Dying Swan?
I would say team all four because I want to dance all of those roles. But I guess Dying Swan if I had to pick one. I am very passionate and I’m told that my arms are my best asset.
What is your preferred pointe shoe brand?
Ooh, that is hard because I have been happy with may different brands. Freeds look the best but don’t last very long. Gaynor’s are so popular in Moscow so I got a pair.
I like them but I have been using Tchika from Sansha for the past 3 years because they cost 20 bucks a pair, last a long time and pretty much look good on everyone’s feet.
What is one ballet exercise you especially like or find helpful?
Pilates in general! But thera-banding my feet twice a day makes a big difference, I do it to warm up my feet before class and to strength my ankles at night.
You have been promoted to principal dancer – which company is it with, and what is your debut role?
This is a really hard question! Dutch (Het) National Ballet and I would be debuting either as Carmen or Juliet.
What have been your favourite and least favourite variations to perform so far?
Gamzatti I liked performing more than I thought I would. The Spanish variation from Paquita would be my least favourite.
What’s on your playlist at the moment?
I listen to iTunes radio all the time but I am currently obsessed with Alt-J (∆) , Childish Gambino’s new album, Vampire Weekend and some Frank Ocean.
Who are your favourite male and female dancers?
So many favorites! But top three today: Ekaterina Maximova, Alessandra Ferri and Sylvie Guillem.
Males dancers: Eric Underwood, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Artem Ovcharenko.
If you could be anyone for one day, who would it be?
Myself when I was a baby.
